Conscious Awareness: Pay Attention To Your Attention

When talking about resonance (see previous post) I’ve been coming to realise more and more that the old saying “Your Energy Flows Where Your Attention Goes” is just as important as your vision for yourself.

What do I mean by that?

Well, think about it. When you fall in love, where is your attention? On the object of your affection right? Absolutely. Where is all your energy going? Same place! That’s a pretty obvious example and I was wondering if it applies most or all of the time.

Let’s take a look at some other scenarios:

  • You have an exam coming up and you really, really, really want to get a good mark. Where is your attention? Does all your energy go there too?
  • You’ve been caught out doing something you shouldn’t do and tomorrow, someone wants to talk to you about it. Where is all your energy tonight? Yes it seems to work here too.
  • Your child is ill. Really ill and you sit by the bed, listening to them struggle. They have your attention and you are as exhausted as they are.

I think we can see that when the stakes are high, this old adage really seems to work. I also choose to think that it works even when things don’t appear to be so critical we just don’t take the same notice of it and that is where some of our difficulties begin.

When we set a goal, make a promise to ourselves to quit something or do something (smoking, drinking, exercise… you know the kind of stuff I mean) we really focus our attention (and our energy) on it and make a commitment to ourselves. However, over time our attention wanders to other matters, other people, other problems and we begin to give our energy to these other things.

We’ve stepped out of the flow of our initial intention, given our attention to something else and the wheels fall off the original plan. The goal is never reached, the habit is never broken, our problems remain unsolved. It’s interesting isn’t it?

So given that there appears to be a correlation between intention, attention, energy (resonance) it becomes really important for us to remember to remember what it is we want to achieve or who it is we really are.

  • My personal desire in writing this blog has been to share what I have learned (and continue to discover) about the path my journey has taken as I really focus on my continuing evolution as human being.
  • My discovery of my intensely spiritual nature combined with my absolute desire to make a difference of some kind on this wonderful planet. I’ve chosen the sharing of wisdom – mine and others – as my vehicle.
  • Thus far, the development of practices that sustain me has been the most effective things as I discovered as a way of maintaining my focus (attention) on my desire.
  • Connection with my higher sense of myself through meditation, care of my physical being by eating pure food and drinking pure water, daily exercise (I love walking and yoga), connection with a community of like minded people (both in the real world and online), continuing education (books, courses, e-courses).

You’ve heard all of that before I’m sure.

What you may not have heard though is to NOT give your attention and thus your energy to things that do not sustain you.

  • I read only the weekend papers these days. After years of reading a daily dose of “news” about crime, terror, lies and corruption, I decided to just do a weekly update. I’m pretty fussy about what I read, even then. My attention is no longer held by the sensationalism and rubbish usually filling the pages of many so called “newspapers”.
  • Add to that all those trashy magazines I used to read – no more.
  • Even my television viewing habits have changed radically. I know the big stuff going on in the world. I know the important stuff. I don’t care about the rest, the do not sustain me. I no longer give my attention and energy to them. We no longer resonate and my life is to much the better for it.

Of course, this didn’t happen over night. It wasn’t even difficult, it came really naturally as the evolution of my consciousness continued. I have no idea what my next “thing’ will be but I know when it comes, it will be as natural as breathing.

You are free to choose in every minute of every single day of your life what you are going to give your attention to. What we all need to remember is that once something has our attention, it also has our energy – it affects our energy, our vibration, our resonance, for better or for worse. We will be raised up or we will be pulled down. It’s always up to us.

I hope this helps with something in your life.

Have a wonderful, wonderful day.

Conscious Awareness: Flowing With Your Vision

Have you ever had one of those days, seems to be an entirely ordinary day but as it progressed you began to wondered if you had somehow slipped into another dimension where things look the same as ‘home’ but for some reason you are at odds with everything around you? There are times when I’ve fallen into my bed at night wondering what was wrong with the world, the people around me, even my dog! Of course, the truth of the matter is that there isn’t anywhere but ‘home’ and there is nothing wrong with any of it – I’m just not resonating with my world in times like that.

So what exactly do I mean when I say resonating? It can be a bit complicated to explain but it’s easy to understand once you get the idea. I’ll attempt to keep it simple, it’s like being in harmony with your life. That is resonance. I also call it being in the flow – you know those days when everything just comes easily, even if you have hard ’stuff’ to do, it just seems to get done. That is resonance.

Now of course it’s much more than that and if you’ve been reading anything about the new quantum understandings coming out of the scientific community it can be a little daunting – however, if you can get your head around those couple of examples then you have the seed to understanding resonance within you.

It can be tough when you have a bout of discordance (not being in resonance) and in my experience, it can take me a little while to remember that it’s not the world that has changed overnight, it’s probably me. This can be a little unsettling, disturbing even but I’ve come to really welcome these times (once I recognise them) because they are like signposts to me that my journey is taking a quantum leap forward.

Recognition is the key here.

  • That is cultivating your conscious awareness and recognising what it is that is happening right when it’s occuring. Not later, with the benefit of hindsight, but right then and there as you are experiencing your resonance with life, or your lack of it.
  • By being aware of what is happening you can gradually find the areas where you need to do more inner work, or where you have actually already done the work which may have resulted in you no longer having a resonance with a situation or person or activity in your life. This can be such a validation of what you have been doing, a reward for your personal practice, be it meditation, yoga, journaling, personal development, spiritual practice or even persuing further education in a new field of endeavour.

That being said, these periods when you are out of resonance, or you have begun to resonate with a new energy can be a bit unsettling. It is during these periods that we much remain in touch with our vision, staying focused on whatever it is you are working to achieve – your highest vision for yourself, your masterpiece life. One way we can do this is to practice non-attachment to the little dramas that are created during these transition moments in your life – don’t give them your precious energy, you need it for much better things.

During such periods it’s vital to maintain those practices that sustain you. Pure food and water, gentle exercise, meditation, inspiring reading and real connection with those I love each and every morning. This gives me the resonance I need to sustain me for almost anything the world has to show me each and every day. Develop your own recipe to sustain your resonace and help you develop your practice to help you stay ‘in the flow’ as each day of your life unfolds.

Conscious Awareness: Clarity Is A Wonderful Thing

This very morning, a dear friend of mine wrote a very inspiring post on her blog. Why was it inspiring? It got me thinking, writing and taking action, frankly things don’t get more inspiring than that!

I was inspired to put my thoughts into a comment on her blog, I was inspired to tell you about it and write this short post, I was inspired to write something in my journal and do a meditation! Here is the comment I left her:

WOW! What a wonderful post Birte – I love what you are saying here. My experience has been that my best growth comes from my Private Self Development (my meditation, my journalling, my yoga and all the other stuff I “do”).

Of course though, I “do” these things because I have been moved to do them because I am also actively engaged in Structured Personal Development. Courses, books, seminars, deliberate conversations and group activities. These stretch me, challenge me, provoke and inspire me and that is when I begin my real work in private.

Thank you so, so much for writing this – I’d never stopped and looked at my ‘process’ like this before on a conscious level and it’s very helpful to me. I hope others get such value too.

To me, Private Personal Development (or growth and empowerment) comes from my private practices. The practices that I have chosen because they resonate with me, help me gain clarity and insight and support my growth.

On the other hand Structured Personal Development is what I participate in when I am drawn to a new idea, come across a new teacher who gets me excited about something or perhaps read a book, watch a movie or listen to a seminar, take a course or an e-course that really pushes my buttons and challenges me to step right outside my comfort zone… again!

How does it work for you? Share your stories and insights by leaving a comment. We all benefit from this kind of interaction. Have a wonderful day.

Awakening Consciousness: Can You Change Yourself?

Have you ever wondered if it were possible to ‘transcend’ the desires of the flesh (be that wealth, lust, prestige or success in any other form) ?

When I first began my journey towards Conscious Awareness, I thought that is what I was required to do. As the years progressed, I became quite despondent when I continually ‘failed’ to move away from my feelings of desire for things and I almost gave up.

Then one day I had an amazing realisation.

I had changed despite still being very much connected to my desires, my humanness, my love of life and the things around me. I was so happy to realise that I didn’t have to forgo all those things. I was even more delighted to realise that some of my responses and desires around those things had shifted. Not disappeared but shifted.

Of course you can change “yourself” but that doesn’t mean that you forgo those forces in your life that make you alive. You merely work to shift your perceptions of what is important, necessary and real. This will be unique to each of us.

When we go on that quest to “find” ourselves, if we are successful, we merely discover that we are already complete, whole, perfect.

Love.

We then place a different value on money, ego, lust, power etc. we can still play with them, they just don’t play with us in the same way. Your perceptions have changed, the power belongs to you now, not to the money, the car, the trappings of success.

You have uncovered you true essence and never again need you worry about loss or acquisition because you know deep in your heart that this is part of your journey. If you are ready to begin or if you have already walked many miles down this path but are looking for something different or new click here to see my 5 Steps To Discover Your Life Purpose e-course. No charge to you.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Many years ago I came across an amazing self-study course which literally changed the direction and the quality of my life. The original self-study course was:

  • three volumes,
  • a CD set and
  • even a set of DVD’s!

It took me a long time to work through it and as I said it really set me on the path I am currently following in my life today.

Last year, the author of that course, Leslie Fieger, decided to write a follow-up to his world famous self-study course. It came in the form of a simple book titled Your Prosperity Paradigm and really it appears to be a book of our times. It outlines in 11 Steps what you need to know to really transform any area of your life.

  • This little volume is NOT available in your local bookshop.
  • You can only get it from one place in the whole wide world and that’s why I’m writing to you today.

If you feel that you could be experiencing more of anything in your life and you would like to develop the mindset to help you move forward towards a more rewarding and fulfilling existence then Leslie Fiegers book could be just what you are looking for.

Here is an excerpt from a review of Leslies book:

Leslie’s entertaining, unique and masterful writing style made it difficult to put the book down my first time through, and clearly communicates a “can’t fail” system with a personalized, practical, step by step plan that will enable and empower anyone with the desire and a willingness to apply the principles shared, the ability to experience life in a whole new way.

I have read this 168 page book twice already and I know I will read it again because each time I do… I learn something new.

If you think this will be of interest to you, click this link and take a look. For less than $25 you could really transform the life you live and know in your heart that you have become the person who deserves it all.

Just to let you know – I am not affiliated with this book in any way. I don’t make any money from it’s sales – I just think it’s a worthwhile book and one that can make a difference to people’s lives. With our world in turmoil it’s time is certainly now and if I can get it into people’s hands then I will certainly try.

Conscious Awareness: The Trinity of Trouble

Fear, Doubt and Worry: Are the enemies of every deeply held dream, of every good intention made, of each vision we hold for ourselves that has not yet become our reality. Who among us has not succumbed at some time to this invisible trinity of trouble?

In this brave new world we are facing today, with climatic, political and economic chaos all around, it can be the most natural thing in the world to give in to these feelings of fear, doubt and worry. It can seem impossible not let this trinity of trouble have its full head of power in our lives.

  • Our minds can be our dearest friend and our worst enemy. As we go about our daily business, the mind can fill our heads and our hearts with doubts about our deservedness to receive that which we intend for ourselves.
  • Thoughts around our ability to pull off such a task, doubts around the resources we need becoming available or fear of failure (or success) can dull our energy, causing us to stumble in our progress towards that which will undoubtedly come to us if we just hold firmly to our vision and commitment to it.

Everywhere we look right now we see trouble, confusion, dissent, aggression, pain and suffering – even the Earth seems hell bent on making our lives more difficult with drought, flood, storms and the threat of earthquake and eruption being reported by the media on a constant basis. No wonder people are feeling shaken.

When you become a being of Conscious Awareness you know too that for each event in our lives there is a balancing energy present. We may have to seek it out but we know without a doubt that it is there. The media don’t pick it up because it’s often not dramatic enough, people don’t gossip about it very often because its not ‘gut wrenching’ or gritty enough but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.

The internet is full of stories (true or imagined) of great feats of kindness, of loving actions, of small miracles.

These stories spread across the net of our existence with fire like rapidity, filling a need for access to this energy of kindness, love, gratitude and hope. But this is merely a scratch upon the surface of the reality of which I speak. You can find your own sources to use as an antidote to fear, doubt and worry and when you discover them for yourself you can cultivate them, share them and plant the seeds of Love, Gratitude, Kindness and Hope in the lives of others.

Ways to discover and then cultivate these balancing forces in your life and then spread them throughout your family, friends, community and ultimately across our entire planet are many, however I can recommend meditation as a way to find the space to allow the seeds of Love, Gratitude, Kindness and Hope to germinate within you.

  • My personal efforts include meditation, being in nature, gardening – especially growing my own food organically and in harmony with the Earth.
  • Writing this blog and many other articles, writing another blog bringing awareness around living an Alternative Lifestyle to the one being pushed to us by media and business interests which don’t have my best interests at heart.
  • Learning Yoga,
  • Doing one unnecessary, unexpected act of kindness for someone each and every day,

It’s not always easy, I sometimes forget who I really am and begin the slide down into helplessness and fear. But I am surrounded by resources and sources of inspiration, hope and love are sitting on my bookcase waiting to inspire me, they are on the end of the telephone listening with Love to my voice and they are held in the hearts of many of the people who surround me if I only reach out and connect with them.

I reach out to you with Love, Kindness, Gratitude and Hope as an antidote to our current world situation. Cultivate these seeds of companionship as you would a precious plant and then share them with all you encounter.
