There is an organisation where many of the leading thinkers and scientists studying this very thing can be found. Details of some of their research as well as video and audio files can be accessed.

Some of Dr Bruce Lipton’s work can be accessed via the site and I find him particularly interesting. Perhaps you will too.

To answer your last question I suspect so called “LOA writers” get their premises from observing the reality of their own life and seeing a correlation between their dominant thinking patterns and the results of their own life , both desireable and not so desireable.

As for sources that discuss ideas of the energy of thoughts etc. I think a great place to start would be to look through a book by Lynne McTaggart called “The Field”. “The Intention Expermiment” is a good follow up. Also Michael Talbot’s book “The Holographic Universe”
