I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about thinking through this process of raising my level of Conscious Awareness and it seems a strange notion that here we are in the 21st Century and still we don’t realise what we are thinking about.

When I take a slightly closer look at Western Culture and more and more this is the case for more and more ‘developed’ cultures, we are absolutely bombarded with information, images, ideas, causes, advertising, entertainment, choices… it’s a constant thing.

  • We are under pressure from all sorts of people and places – pressure to think and behave and live in certain accepted or recommended ways – we get it from our friends and peers, the media, family and other organisations we belong to, our Governments advertise to us in the media and it seems we are always being told What To Think!

The more I have been thinking about all of this, the clearer it has become to me that I don’t need to be told what to think, if you give me a minute it just happens – one of the most useful gifts or tools I have ever received was the gift of Learning How To Think… for myself!

  • You see, if my mind is full of clutter, if it is just chattering away to itself just because it can, then I’m pretty soon going to stop taking notice of it.
  • Anyone with a toddler who keeps asking questions understands a parents ability to ’screen out’ the unnecessary chatter and just zone in on the important stuff. ‘
  • It’s one of the remarkable things about our human brain – it filters out all that we have told it is not required and just alerts us to the important stuff.

So we have stopped listening to the chatter in our minds. The net result of that it seems to me, is that we now have lost our intimate link to the most powerful force for creating absolutely anything we want. We have become estranged from our thoughts. We have allowed our patterns to become mindless feedback loops of trivia, junk, advertising, fear, doubt and worry. Most of the time.

Conscious Awareness of our thoughts is a major first step, a breakthrough of sorts, to making some changes to the way we view ourselves, our lives and what is possible for us as individuals and as a species. Imagine for just a minute if we all decided to stop the mindless chatter and focus our individual and collective attention on… anything! I get excited just writing about it!

I’ve been doing a little research for those who would like to delve further into this topic and have listed some websites, blogs and other resources for you to browse through and see what resonates with you. I hope you find something wonderful to help you continue your journey of raising your level of Conscious Awareness.

  • This first link is to a blog page of Sri Chinmoy and is related to meditation but the basic information is applicable to anyone looking to take control of their mind.
  • This link is from the articles section of John Kehoe’s Mind Power website. He has a lot of articles and information about Mind Power there and this article offers just one perspective of developing a relationships with your mind and thoughts and then looking for new ways to think about things.
  • The third link today is from an article site by Neil Moffatt, writing on life and people, and is titled Conscious Thinking – I just couldn’t leave that concept off the list.

Of course there are many, many websites, blogs, books, programs and the like around and a lot of them have things you can buy but that is not my intention here today. Just take a look around and read what interests you if this is a topic that has caught your ‘attention”!

Of course you can keep up with my thoughts on thinking and Conscious Awareness by visiting my website from time to time.
